MAN USES BAT TO BEAT BROTHER

A man who was hauled before the court for knocking his brother unconscious with a baseball bat had his bail extended in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

He is Andrew Bonitto who has been charged with unlawful wounding.

Bonitto is to return to court on March 13, for sentencing.

Allegations are that on the day in question, Bonitto used a baseball bat to hit his brother during a dispute.

The police told the court that Bonitto and his brother have been having a long-standing dispute over land.

The court heard that the complainant was knocked unconscious and had to undergo surgery as a result of the damage to his head.

Bonitto had initially pleaded not guilty to the charge, however, he later told the court that he was merely defending himself.

"Your Honour, It was a piece of board I had use and what had happen is that he came up in my face and I told him not to touch me. I had to hit him," the accused said.
