Residents of the hard-core and volatile inner-city community of Homestead in St Catherine were shocked out of their wits yesterday when two men from the community got into an argument when one accused the other of being unfaithful. The high drama resulted in one of the men being chopped to death while the St Catherine North police have taken two men into custody in connection with the killing. Police have since identified the dead man as Christopher Williams, a 36-year-old vendor. The name of those in custody are being withheld pending further investigations, the police said. Residents told THE STAR that the deceased was always suspected of being 'funny', but they never expected him to come out with it so brazen. Even more surprising to the residents is that the man he accused of being unfaithful is believed to be a hard-core thug in the community. "All dem thing yah happen because of jealousy. It really sad," a female resident said. Information reaching THE STAR is that Williams went to a section of the community where he accosted two men. Police said he reportedly accused one of the men of being unfaithful and they got into an argument. Police said during the argument, Williams chopped one of the men. He reportedly fled but was then set upon by the men. He was chopped several times. He was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the police said. "There is speculation that (one of) the accused and the deceased had a dispute about a relationship they shared that went sour," one of the investigators told THE STAR. |
