Students at the Rock River Primary School in St Mary should feel a little cooler in classes now after several fans were donated to the institution last Wednesday. Making the donation was Deputy Superintendent Hornet Williams, a past student of the school. DSP Williams, who works in the Kingston Eastern Police Division, made the donation through his company Super Willie Promotions. He has made similar donations to schools in his division. giving back He said being an alumni of Rock River Primary, it gives him great pleasure to give back to his institution so the children from the community can benefit and enjoy a better environment at the school. "Rock River Primary is my school, that's where I'm from, and I came to understand that they were in need of some fans, and out of my promotion I decided to buy these fans because it's all about helping and trying to give back to the community in some way," he said. "The fact that we would have gone to school and have achieved something in our lives, it is important that we give back to those who are coming up. They will be the men and women of tomorrow, so we have to try as best to keep them on the right track and to help in whatever way we can. The government can't do everything, so it is up to us to try and do what we can do to enhance and assist in the development of the youths." Senior teacher Veresa Davis-Brown said the school is grateful for the gift. She said the fans bring relief for the children. "This is his school, this is his alma mater, that means good thing can come from anywhere. So it doesn't matter where you go, once you work towards whatever it is that you want you can accomplish it," Davis-Brown told her students during the handing over ceremony. focusing your minds The DSP also promised to get computers for the school. "You see, by the time you get older, there will be no job in this country, that if you are not computer literate, you will be able to get. So it is important at this early stage in life that you start focusing your minds as to what you want out of life, because if you don't know, you won't achieve," he told the students. He revealed that there are other plans for the school. "On March 30, I will have a fund-raising dance in the (Rock River) square. We call it a cook-out basically. The cook-out is just to give away some food, sell some liquor and part proceeds will go towards rebuilding the bathroom facilities at the basic school," he revealed. |
