Senior citizen causes laughter in court |

The Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court erupted into laughter on Friday when it was disclosed that a frail-looking senior citizen was charged with robbery with aggravation. Answering to the charges was 54-year-old Uton Rose, who entered a not guilty plea. The court was told that on the day in question, Rose took the complainant to a place near Spanish Town Road, Kingston, where they were conducting business in relation to a motor vehicle. Allegations are that while they were at that location, Rose took the complainant's car papers and then called an accomplice, who later turned up on the scene with a knife. The court heard that the complainant was then robbed of his car papers and $5,500 in cash. Rose was pointed out and picked up a few days later by the police on Saturday, March 2. Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked the accused, "How many times have you been arrested?" to which he replied, "Several times ... Mi can't count!". The matter was subsequently sent to trial slated to commence on April 9. Rose was remanded and a fingerprint order made. |
