Rasbert Turner, Star Writer A man who is charged with killing his stepbrother and wounding his father was again remanded when he appeared in court yesterday. Dead is Norval Plummer, 15-year-old, of Christian Pen, Portmore, St Catherine. Charged with his murder is Vernal Whyte, 27-year-old engineer, of Antigua and Portmore, St Catherine. When Whyte reappeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, in applying for bail, his attorney-at-law Clive Mullings told the court Whyte would be living elsewhere if granted bail. Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green told the lawyer that the persons with whom he will reside would have to appear before her. The accused was then ordered remanded until April 23, when the matter will again be mentioned. It was revealed to the court that the accused was seen by a psychiatrist and was fit to plea. Allegations are that on June 20 last year, about 6 a.m., the accused was involved in a dispute with the deceased when he reportedly chopped him. His stepmother intervened having heard screams and was chopped on her hand. The accused father attempted to rescue his wife and was also cut by Whyte. They were taken to the hospital where Plummer was pronounced dead. Whyte later turned himself in to the Portmore police resulting in Whyte been charged with murder and two counts of wounding. |
