CURTIS CAMPBELL, STAR Writer
Local record producer Icon has teamed up with up-and-coming dancehall artiste Eklypse for what promises to be a string of musically electrifying projects. Icon is not very popular in the eyes of the common Jamaican, however the producer is responsible for the production of some of the most locally successful and commercial dancehall rhythms, like the Gaza World rhythm which features Vybz Kartel's Real Badman and Tun Up The Scheme, Party Cup rhythm featuring Ding Ding, the Giggle It rhythm featuring Beenie Man and Mavado's Olympic single On The Go. Icon, who now operates his own production company, has worked with almost every popular name in dancehall. However, he says working with Eklypse is positive for his community and for the development of dancehall music. "It's cool working with an artiste that has the drive and patience. We are both from Nannyville and, unlike some artiste, he is always working to build his craft, so it's clear that he is in this for the longevity and not just for hype and to follow trend. He takes the time to do positive songs as well and I respect that," Icon said. Icon is also plotting to embark on new business ventures in the coming months. An exclusive dancehall compilation will also be released from Icon Music Group on his newly produced Tequila rhythm. Eklypse was featured on the Party Cup medley, alongside Ding Dong and Elephant Man's protégé Tornado. His dance song which also featured Ding Dong, was also used as a title track for a J Will-produced dance documentary soon to be released. "I have achieved some amount of attention in Europe because I mostly focus overseas, because in Jamaica it's harder to get the exposure. I even have songs released in Europe that have over one hundred thousand clicks, so that shows that my fanbase is building. I'm working with Icon and we are doing good music and we have musical chemistry," Eklypse said. Eklypse is currently promoting a song called Never Burn Your Bridges produced by France-based record label Y Not Production. He also has another notable single called Let Me Know which now has over 145,000 views on Icon Music Group's YouTube page. "For 2013 just support Icon Music Group and pay some attention to the young talents because we have the talent to contribute to the rich musical heritage of Jamaica," Eklypse told THE STAR. |
