Man remanded for forgery and impersonating police

A man who allegedly pretended to be a police officer and received loans totalling $458,000 from two lending agencies was remanded in The Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Andrew Shepherd is charged with forgery, uttering forged documents, obtaning money by means of forged document, conspiracy and impersonating police. He is to return to court on March 22.

The crime was reportedly committed between January 14 and March 12.

According to reports, on January 14, the defendant went to a financial institution where he applied for a loan amount of $224,850 in the name Ryan Hamilton, a constable attached to the St Thomas division.

He went to the Ministry of National Security and presented a salary deduction arrangement in favour of the aforementioned name.

On January 22, the defendant reportedly visited another institution where he applied for another loan amounting to $311,000 in the same name, and claimed he was a constable attached to the Yallahs Police Station.

He then revisited the Ministry of National Security and presented a deduction form in favour of himself.

On February 6, he visited another institution and applied for a loan in the sum of $147,000 in the same name, and again said he was a constable.

The police were made aware of the defendant's financial actions and an investigation launched.

He was later arrested and charged.
