Corporal held for soliciting money |

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer A corporal from the Guys Hill Police Station in St Catherine has been arrested for trying to solicit $52,000 from a motorist. He was held about 4 p.m. yesterday by detectives assigned to the Anti-Corruption Branch. The policeman was picked up during a sting operation at the Sagicor Shopping Centre in Spanish Town, St Catherine. The cop was nabbed after a man who reportedly collected some of the money on his behalf was taken into custody. falsify information It is reported that contact was made with the cop and when he went to collect the money, he was held. It is alleged that two years ago the policeman reportedly prosecuted a motorist for breaches of the Road Traffic Act. While the matter was before the court, the corporal solicited and accepted a total of $52,000 on different occasions in order to falsify information to the court to have the case thrown out. A total of $42,000 was paid and he was invited to collect the remaining $10,000 when he was held by his colleagues. The policeman is being held pending a ruling from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. |
