A 26-year-old man who was arrested and charged after he was found to be in possession of 3.2 pounds (1.45 kilograms) of cocaine was denied bail in The Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. Kemar Bayliss, a customer service representative and record producer of a Kingston 11 address, is charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, taking steps to export cocaine and conspiracy. He was remanded until April 18. It is reported that on the day of the incident, Bayliss was spotted in downtown Kingston where he and a group of men were allegedly acting suspiciously. When the police searched him, white powdery substance allegedly resembling cocaine was found in a knapsack he was carrying. When cautioned, Bayliss reportedly told the police, "I did not know what was in the bag. Someone gimme to carry it to someone," he said. The attorney representing Bayliss asked that his client be given bail to which Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Puesy replied, "I'm not granting bail. He has collected the substance from 'X' to give to 'Y' and we don't know who these persons are," she said. Bayliss was subsequently ordered fingerprinted. |
