An elderly woman was found dead in her home on Sunday with her throat slashed.

She has been identified as 70-year-old Joyce Marks, otherwise called 'Eggy', of a Kingston 19 address.

Her body was discovered on Sunday, around 8 a.m. in the living room of her dwelling, by a cousin, who alerted Marks' daughter, Marcia Johnson, after several calls and knocks on her door went unanswered. She was found with several clothes heaped upon her.

When THE WEEKEND STAR visited the community on Tuesday afternoon, relatives of the elderly woman were observed removing items from the house, which were then burnt.

Johnson said she suspected robbery could been the motive for the killing.

"She was living alone. They broke into her house more than once last year, and the police had held two boys," she explained.

Johnson also said it was recently that her mother had come to look for her. She said little did she know that when left for home, it would have been the last time the family would see her alive. Johnson said items were missing such as the title to the house and a bank passbook.

The family remembers the woman as a feeble yet industrious person.

The Constabulary Communication Network has confirmed the elderly woman's death and the police have launched an investigation into the matter.
