Alleged Jamaican drug mule arrested in Barbados

Another alleged Jamaican drug mule was held in Barbados, bringing to four the amount jailed so far this year for attempting to smuggle drugs into that country.

According to www.caribbeantracker.com, the man was caught at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA).

Reports said Alvin Orlandzo Calbert, 42, arrived in Barbados on Monday and was interviewed by members of the Drug Squad at the GAIA. Calbert was referred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he subsequently passed out 69 packages of the ingested cannabis. The drug weighed three and a half pounds.

He was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled drug, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation of cannabis.

Calbert appeared at the District B Magistrate Court and pleaded guilty to all the charges. He was subsequently sentenced to two years' imprisonment on three of the charges.
