Man shot in gun attack

A brazen daylight gun attack in downtown Kingston resulted in a man nursing serious injuries and family members thankful, at least for now, that they were spared the worst.

According to reports, a 39-year-old security guard was shot multiple times by unknown assailants while he sat on his motorbike along the usually busy North Street, about 11:45 a.m.

When THE WEEKEND STAR arrived on the scene, there were scores of onlookers, along with Scene of Crime detectives conducting their assessment.

Our news team was told that the security guard was shot three times.

"Him get shot in his neck and his right leg and also in his mid section. While we a rush wid him the police say fi hold him neck because him did a lose a lot of blood," remarked a man who assisted to take the injured man to hospital.

THE WEEKEND STAR was told that the security guard alternates as a delivery man for a restaurant not far from where he was attacked.

The injured man's daughter, who also assisted in taking him to the hospital, told THE WEEKEND STAR that she don't know why anyone would try to harm her father.

With bloodstain visible on her garments and hands, his daughter said, "A just yesterday (Sunday) him cook some mackerel and rice and we sat and eat right deh so, and now this. A mi boyfriend come tell mi say that dem just shot mi father."

A bystander told THE WEEKEND STAR, "Di bredda just go deliver two food and reach back on the base, and is like him a cool out from the sun under the shade. A di explosion mi hear and people start run".

Witnesses said the shooter escaped on foot, as several persons at a nearby bus stop saw the suspect making a hasty retreat.

The Kingston Central police said no motive has been established for the attack.
