The family of Shanique Wright, the woman whose partially nude body was found in Prospect, Clarendon, on Monday, say they are relieved to know that the man who allegedly killed her is now dead.

Wright's alleged killer, Conrod Douglas, from the neighbouring community of Mullet Hall, Clarendon, was mobbed and killed by residents on Tuesday afternoon.

Wright, 26, a mother of two girls, aged three and six, was reportedly killed after taking her six year-old daughter to school. Wright was reportedly heading home when she took a short cut through bushes and was attacked by a man who then raped and killed her.

A close relative told THE STAR, "We are still mourning, her daughters keep asking for her, we are relieved now that he is dead."

According to reports, Douglas was chopped several times by a mob of angry residents in the community. Shortly after, he was rescued by police and taken to the Chapelton Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

A relative told THE STAR that Douglas allegedly admitted to committing the heinous crime while being rescued by the police.

"When they mobbed him today, he confessed, him seh he 'just wanted some; ... and that was why he did it," a distraught relative told THE STAR.

Relatives described Shanique Wright as a very jovial person who got along well with residents.

"She was always smiling, she nuh pass and nuh hail everybody, she communicated well with everyone," her cousin told THE STAR.

Head of the Clarendon Police Division, Senior Superintendent Michael Scott, told THE STAR that Douglas was a person of interest in connection with Wright's murder. He also told our news team that the police are still conducting investigations into the murder.
