Kingston-based deejay Hitmaker is generating a major buzz with his latest single, 'Da Look Deh' on the popular 'Seduction' rhythm.
"I did a viral video for the single and it just took off online, over 10,000 views across several different channels so I had to shoot the official video which is now being edited and will be released in October. The single itself is being played on every radio station. Everyday it play, mi phone blow up, tweets, BBMs, Instagram, the ting tun up," Hitmaker said.
Thetalented artiste started his career at 16where his lyrical flow and witty metaphors made him a standout among his peers. He grew up in Hughenden, St Andrew, and he attended Clan Carthy Primary School before moving on to Donald Quarrie High School.
He did a one-year crash course in the performing arts at the Exced Community College. After leaving college, he recorded Cock Up Is A Ten for the UIM/Digital One label for Richard Roache. However, it was not until he did No Friend No Deh Again in March 2009 on his own Hitmaker Muzik label, that producers and radio disc jocks began to sit up and pay attention.
"I branched off big time as a producer and an artiste with No Friend No Deh Again. That put me inna the mainstream a serious way, and mi career just enhance from there as a producer and as an artiste. Disc jockeys know that anything from Hitmaker Muzik is a product dem can listen to, I strive for the best," Hitmaker said.
No Friend No Deh Again hit the top ten of several dancehall charts, and gained popularity because it was a semi-autobiographical story based on a real incident in which the deejay was set up and robbed in Hughenden.
"Ah just one of those things that happened to make you wiser. Whatever the world throws at you, you have to use to make you stronger andthat song launched me big time," he said.
In 2012, Hitmaker got major props as an engineer-producer with the release ofthe 'Paypa Chaser' rhythm with the breakout radio hit single Show Me featuring Hitmaker himself and dancehall superstarKonshens.
"I went to the USA and did a lot of promotions in seven states over there for Paypa Chaser and made several new contacts," he said.
In 2013,he began to focus more on the artiste side of his career with the release of two music videos, Stamina andTell Yu Bout Life, both of which received favourable rotation onRETV, Hype TV, TVJ and CVM.
He will be releasing the official video for Da Look Deh next week.
