Gully Squad (GS)front man Chase Cross has a new radio hit single called 'Dem A Pree', where he finds a catchy singalong chorus that has caught the attention of underground mixtape DJs and street selectors.
"The streets love the Dem A Pree song pon the Centre Forward rhythm for DJ Frass.It just come out, and it ah gwaan so we in the streets ah promote it, it ah represent the GS pon an uptempo rhythm. It catchy, 'cause mi sing: 'coulden we dem bwoy dem a pree, tell some bwoy fi stop watch the gully'. It shot," he said. Earlier this year, Chase Cross got some majorunderground buzz with Nuh Beg Fren on the Pop Style rhythm for DJ Frass. The song got a lot of airplay because of Mad Cobra's runaway hit, Dis Dem Anyweh.
"Right now, people are loving my new sound and my unique flow Nuh Beg Fren de pon the horizon, people lovethe styleandflow, and dem familiar wid the song. Mi get forward fi NuhBeg Fren when mi perform at theFamous nightclub alongside Mavado the other day. Plus, mi go Guyana and shell it, so da tune de a do alright and the video just start get some rotation," he said.
Born Sameer Coombs, Chase Cross grew up in the tough community of Arnett Gardens. His affiliation with fellow singjay Mavado started in 2004 when his family moved to Cassava Piece. He has made appearances on shows overseas, sharing the stage with Mavado. He first entered thedancehallarenaas a 'rapjay' in 2009 with his single Better Days on the Clearance rhythm.
Mavado has been taking time out of his hectic schedule to docollaborations with each of the artistes signed to the label to boost their profile and their confidence. Hehas new songs with each of the artistes, which will be released in the next couple of weeks.
"My major influences musically were Bounty Killer, my cousin Mavado, Sizzla, DMX and Tupac, so my sound is a combination of all that," he said.
He has already tasted moderate international success when hissingle 25 was remixed by Mavado and international British rapper Chipmunk.
"That song never get the real promotion, but mi give thanks fi the opportunity to record with Chipmunk," he said.
Chase Cross has been redoubling his efforts in recent weeks, spending a lot of time in the studio. He recently voiced for Truckback Records.
"I did a song from Truckback Records with Mavado and 3 Star just this week, Monday night in fact. Is abad man song wid a mad hook, so Jamaica can look out for that," he said.
