Court hears that ... Man attacks, abducts ex-lover

A seemingly jealous man who saw his babymother in the company of another man then attacked and abducted her, was sentenced to six months imprisonment in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Charged with abduction and assault occasioning bodily harm was Shamar Morgan. He pleaded guilty with explanation.

The court heard that on October 29, Morgan saw the complainant in Nine Miles, Bull Bay, St Andrew, about to enter a bar with a male companion.

According to the complainant, Morgan approached her and asked for their child then started to rain blows on her. She told the court that she fell and he kept assaulting her, shortly after he took her up and threw her in a bus and told the driver to drive.

The court was told that the complainant was taken to Morgan's house where she got a blouse and a slippers because the one she wore was damaged during the attack.

Morgan told Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey that he did not tear off the complainant's clothing during the melee.

He said: "Your Honour is when I hug her up the blouse tear ... all I wanted to know was where my child was and that's all I asked her. I couldn't assault her as how she is saying because the police station was nearby."

The senior magistrate was not pleased with his explanation. Morgan was sentenced to six months on both charges. The sentences are to run concurrently.
