Dancehall entertainer Michelle 'D'Angel' Downer will headline this year's municipal Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Sam Sharpe Square, Montego Bay, today.

The St James Parish Council has organised a wholesome entertainment programme as it continues its trend of delighting residents and visitors who attend the event.

This year's municipal Christmas tree lighting ceremony is part-sponsored by telecommunications giant Digicel and Lucky Dollar Furniture Store. Digicel will also stage pre-show activities in Sam Sharpe Square between 2 to 5 p.m. hosted by DJ Bambino, who will also provide musical juggling on the Digicel Music Truck.

Montego Bay Boys and Girls' club Marching Band will also do a display before the official start of the ceremony, which will begin at 6 p.m.

The event will precede the Mayor's Christmas Dinner for the Homeless on Wednesday, December 17, at the Open Heart Care Centre and the Mayor's Christmas Treat that will be hosted at Jarrett Park on Thursday, December 19.

The Mayor's Treat will cater for more than 800 children from across St James.

The Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be led by the Rose Heights United Full Gospel Church and will feature performances by gospel songbird Joan Flemmings, Digicel Rising Stars' finalists Kahlil, Goddesta, Adoracion, Montego Bay Community College, Mount Alvernia High School, Montego Bay High School, Corinaldi Avenue Primary, Lillian Taylor, Singer Jay and Acapella Flames.
