Two men convicted for motor car theft

Two St Catherine men were convicted and sentenced to six months imprisonment each for the theft of a motor car two years ago.

They are Fitzroy Scott and Maschell Gouldbourne, both from Spanish Town.

When the men appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday, attorney-at-law, Peter Champagnie, made a strenuous application for a non-custodial sentence to be imposed on his clients.

"They have been in custody for 18 months, aond in the spirit of Christmas, I am asking that they be given a non-custodial sentence or even a fine," Champagnie pleaded.

previous convictions

Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green said the prevalence of the offence plus the men's previous convictions, gave her no alternative than to send them to prison.

Clerk of Courts, Nicole Kellier, had led evidence that in 2011 both accused had stolen a Honda motor car in Greater Portmore, St Catherine. The complainant parked his car at home when it went missing. Gouldbourne was caught inside the vehicle while Scott was said to be the "look out" man.

Both were charged with larceny of motor vehicle, conspiracy and malicious destruction of property.
