On Monday, the Digicel Jamaica Facebook page marked a significant milestone when it reached a phenomenal 600,000 fans on the popular social-media page.

After marking the half-a-million milestone earlier this year, the telecommunications company is now very excited about the increase in fans over the past few months.

"In addition to providing customer care on our social-media platforms, we try to keep things fun and interesting. There are lots of engaging activities around our brand ambassadors and local culture, games, prizes and lots of giveaways which our customers truly enjoy," said senior communications manager at Digicel, Shelly-Ann Harris.

She explained that the company is very happy to reach this milestone as it means that they can connect with more of their customers directly.

"Social media has transformed how we communicate with our customers; the 600,000 fans on Facebook are part of the Digicel family online, and online is where the world is going." she said. "Having a large fan base helps us to engage with more of customers on a daily basis and hear directly from them how their needs and wants are evolving. This is important information that directly feeds into the services that we offer and the projects that we develop."

As part of the celebrations, the lucky fan that made the 600,000th click on the Facebook 'like' button will win a brand-new Digicel 4G smartphone and credit, plus the chance to enjoy a delectable dinner at Usain Bolt's Tracks & Records.

The company has also launched a DigiSix movement, which invites Jamaicans to share their six hopes for Jamaica in 2014.
