Hefty bail for accused taxi-operator

Bail set at $300,000 was given to a taxi-operator who has been accused of stealing two motor vehicles when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

He is 36-year-old Mark Taylor from Linstead, St Catherine, who is to return to court on February 6, as the file is incomplete.

Taylor is facing larceny of a stolen motor vehicle, and receiving stolen property charges.

As a condition of Taylor's bail, he is to surrender his travel documents and report to the police every other day.

Allegations are that the accused was found in possession of two stolen motor vehicles, including a Toyota Hiace minibus.

The court heard that the chassis number for one of the motor vehicles was tampered with.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey also heard that the accused has other similar matters before the courts.

Pusey said that the only reason why she is giving the accused bail is because Taylor turned himself in to the police.
