Four persons including a pregnant woman and her 18-month old child suffered multiple injuries after they were hit by a Jamaica Urban Transit Company(JUTC) bus yesterday.

The driver of the bus who was said to be a trainee driver under instruction was also injured. Another bystander received injuries.

Up to press time last night, the pregnant woman was recovering from surgery at the Kingston Public Hospital while her toddler was transferred to the Bustamante Hospital For Children.

The status of the driver and the other person injured was unknown.

Superintendent O. Hamilton,Head of The Kingston Central Police Division said the driver has been charged for careless driving.

"The driver was negotiating parking in the bus park at North Parade when somehow the bus got out of control and among other things, hit the pregnant woman and her child," the SP explained.

"They were trapped under the bus for some time. It was a fire unit that came and jacked up the bus and removed them," he added.
