Cream of the Crop promises great entertainment for Ocho Rios

Following the absence of several high-profile events in the Ocho Rios area, Purple Skunkz Entertainment has decided to fill the void with their latest venture, Cream of the Crop.

Cream of the Crop is scheduled to take place on December 28 at the Cruise Ship Pier in Ocho Rios. Some five acts are billed to perform along with several supporting acts.

Jah Cure, Romain Virgo, I-Octane, Mavado and Chronixx (backed by his Zinc Fence Redemption band) are the headlining acts. Supporting acts include Kabaka Pyramid, Dre Island, Kelissa, Keznandi, Jah Bouks, Iba Mahr and Nature.

Wayne Morris, co-promoter of the event, believes the event has the winning formula. In a release to the media, Higgins explained the idea behind the staging of the event.

"As the name suggests, this show is designed to showcase the artistes who are among the best and at the top of their game. Each artiste was carefully considered before being chosen, and had to satisfy the criteria of currency, catalogue, performance (stage) and professionalism," Morris noted.

The event is geared at residents of Ocho Rios and surrounding areas, as well as visitors who usually converge on the tourist resort area during the festive season.

live event

"Ocho Rios and its environs have become accustomed to at least one major live event at this time of year. The departure of a number of well-known events has left a void on the entertainment calendar, and the residents and visitors are left with little or nowhere to go. We at Purple Skunkz Entertainment heard the cries of the Ocho Rios community, and we have undertaken the task of returning first-class entertainment to the region at Christmas time. In addition, we know it will also provide good entertainment value for our tourists who flock to our shores, and in particular Ocho Rios at this time of year, and who want a taste of real Jamaican entertainment," Morris explained.

Asked about the choice of venue for the staging of the event, Morris pointed to the history of events held there in the past as well as accessibility.

'The venue was chosen for three main reasons. The first being that it has a long history with successful events, and second, it is centrally located and is within walking distance from a number of adjoining neighbourhoods. Third, the natural ambience and infrastructure that this venue provides is like no other in this region."

The Purple Skunkz Entertainment team comprises Wayne 'DJ Wayne' Morris, Ainsworth 'Big A' Higgins, and DJ Smurf. Each has had years of experience in event and show promotion.

Come December 28, patrons can expect a first-class event with high-energy performances. Special attention will also be paid to the tight security measures that will also be in place to ensure the safety of patrons.
