Jamaica Public Service Company technician regularises electrical supply in Denham Town, Kingston.

A man apparently feeling the Christmas spirit who set up an illegal electricity connection to his house in anticipation for the season may not be so merry if he does not pay a $500,000 fine.

Kevin Reid was fined $500,000 or six months after he pleaded guilty in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday to abstracting electricity.

"Christmas a come and mi want ... you know ...," Reid told Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey as he gesticulated with his hands.

"With the light, you want to play music and those things?" the RM asked the defendant, which garnered laughter.

Reid told the RM he connected the light illegally earlier in the month. However, the Crown disagreed.

According to the prosecution, Reid has been in arrears to the Jamaica Public Service for the last six years racking up a bill of $475,000.
