Male accused of killing 18-y-o mother remanded

The man accused of killing Kimberly Simpson, the 18-year-old mother of his two-year-old son, was yesterday remanded when he appeared in the St Elizabeth Resident Magistrate's Court on a murder charge.

He is set to return to court on January 13.

The accused who was charged last week was remanded as it is believed he is a flight risk. There were also concerns for his safety stemming from an attempted mob killing following the incident, which led to Simpson's death.

The allegations are that sometime after 10 on the morning of November 29, the accused went to the house where Simspon, her grandmother, and her son lived.

While there, a dispute developed and the accused locked himself in the house with Simpson where he allegedly chopped her to death in front of their son.

He reportedly put the child outside the house and lit it.

There was, however, no significant damage the house as the Junction Fire Station arrived on the scene shortly after the fire was set.

An angry crowd, which converged on the scene, prevented the police from removing the man from the house for several hours.
