Three allegedly found with 100lb of ganja get bail

Three men who were allegedly found on a truck laden with more than 100 pounds (45.45 kilograms) of ganja were each granted $1 million bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

They are David Dabrio, 31, a chef; 27-year-old Phillip Maxwell Williams, truck driver, both from Central Village, Catherine; and 56-year-old Lenworth Powell, race horse trainer from Waterloo Road, East Kingston.

All three men were charged with possession of, dealing in, taking steps to export, and conspiracy to export ganja.

As a condition of their bails, the men are to surrender their travel documents and report to the police twice weekly.

They are to return to court on February 18, when the matter will be mentioned as the file is incomplete.

Allegations are that on December 9, police, acting on information, stopped and searched a white Isuzu truck that is owned by a female from St Catherine.

It was reported that the truck was laden with 40 boxes of yams and vegetable matter resembling ganja.

The men were subsequently arrested.
