Accused rapist now faces escaping custody charge

A man who the St Catherine police said is responsible for the alleged sexual assault of four schoolgirls is now facing the charge of escaping custody.

The Star was informed that the suspect, who turned himself in to police on Friday, fled from the police after being escorted to further the investigation.

He had to be chased by the police, held, and placed back in custody.

Police said the man resides in the rural St Catherine community where the children attend school.

His name has been withheld pending further investigation.

Police reports are that a week ago, a man armed with a gun invaded a school premises. He reportedly molested the four first formers who went to look at agricultural produce at the rear of the school.

The incident has prompted the St Catherine North police to put permanent presence on the school compound.
