Mom of baby found in bushes held

A woman who said she was the mother of a one-year-old babygirl found in bushes following a shoot-out between police and gunmen on Monday has been taken into custody.

THE STAR was informed that the 23-year-old woman turned herself in to the police on Tuesday night.

"We are still conducting preliminary investigations in the matter. Therefore, we cannot divulge her name," Superintendent Clive Blair said.

The child was found in bushes in Windsor Heights, Central Village, St Catherine, where the the police said gunmen engaged them in a shoot-out on Monday.

Two guns were seized during the stand-off.

A police presence has since blanketed the area to bring calm.
