US health officials issue travel advisory for St Martin

United States health officials issued an advisory earlier this week about travelling to the island of St Martin following reports of an outbreak of a mosquito borne virus.

According to the Centre for Disease Control Prevention (CDC), they have received information about the Chikungunya virus being present among some residents of the French side of St Martin.

According to the reports, 10 cases have been confirmed in St Martin.

An infection from the virus, according to the CDC, is rarely fatal, but can lead to rash, headaches, joint and muscle pains among infected patients.
