250 pounds of ganja sieized in clarendon

The May Pen police seized 250 pounds (113.6 kilograms) of ganja on the Toll gate main road in Clarendon on Monday.

Information is that, between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., lawmen were conducting a vehicular checkpoint operation in the area when the driver of a motor car was signalled to stop.

A search was carried out and the ganja, which has a street value of $1.25 million was seized and man taken into custody.

His identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

Meanwhile, the St Elizabeth Operational Support Team seized more than 100lb (45 kilograms) of ganja in Knoxwood, Lacovia, in the parish on Sunday. No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.

Reports from the Black River police are that, about 11:35 p.m., the police were on an operation in the community when they came across eight plastic bags containing 103 pounds of ganja.

It is estimated that the drug would have been sold for $515,000 had it been peddled on the nation's streets.

Investigations are ongoing.
