Vendor fined $10,000 for punching

A vendor who felt a delivery man unjustifiably touched him, causing him to punch the delivery man in his face, was fined $10,000, or six months' imprisonment, yesterday in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Jermaine Shaw, charged with assault, pleaded guilty and offered the court an explanation.

attacked me

Shaw said: "Your Honour, he attacked me by touching me three times, and him push mi and say, "Weh you a do, and him thump mi and mi thump him back ... ."

The complainant, however, refuted Shaw's testimony.

"Your Honour, I was sorting out some goods in the delivery van to go about my business. I didn't touch this man," said the complainant.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked the accused, "So, people can't touch people in Jamaica again?"

A fingerprint order was made against Shaw.
