Man accused of attempted robbery remanded

A Portmore man who is accused of attempting to rob a man of his cellular phone was remanded when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court.

He is Wilton Topey, a 39-year-old labourer of Gregory Park in the municipality.

When Topey appeared before Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green, he pleaded not guilty.

The clerk of court told the resident magistrate that Topey was a repeat offender. He was subsequently remanded until January 14, next year.

Allegations are that on December 3 the complainant was walking along George Lee Boulevard in Portmore. It was reported that he was approached and assaulted by Topey, who attempted to rob him of his cellular phone.

An alarm was raised and he was held and charged with assault with intent to rob and being armed with an offensive weapon.
