A 23-year-old man was on Thursday offered bail when he appeared in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court on charges of murder and wounding with intent.

The accused, Ian Clarke, who is to return to court on February 12, 2014, was offered $1 million bail with one to four sureties. He was ordered to surrender all travel documents to the police and a stop order imposed on all ports of exit.

He is also to report to the Freeport Police Station in St James, every day between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. and is under curfew from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily.

The allegations are that on October 27, 2013, Clarke had a dispute with a Tedroy Largie over ganja. The court heard that during the dispute, a cutlass was used to chop Largie on the neck. Largie's sister made an attempt to intervene and also received wounds to her left shoulder and left hand.

Both were rushed to the hospital where Largie was pronounced dead. His sister was treated and released, but is still said to be receiving medical attention for her injuries.
