Teen gunned down in robbery attempt identified

The St Mary police have released the identity of the teen killed while allegedly trying to rob a plain-clothes policeman on Christmas Day in the parish, THE WEEKEND STAR understands.

He is 19-year-old Gavin Patterson of a Port Maria address.

Reports from the Annoto Bay police are that about 4:24 a.m. on Wednesday, a police constable attached to the Area Five Police Division, was driving along the Bamboo District main road when two men blocked his path and then attempted to rob him.

THE WEEKEND STAR gathered that the constable challenged the men.

Our news team understands that a police party on patrol, spotted what was happening and assisted the constable during the alleged shoot-out.

Patterson was fatally shot, and reports are that his alleged partner in crime managed to escape.

The police told our news team that a 9mm pistol with five cartridges was allegedly seized from the dead man.

Investigation is ongoing.
