Jamaican pleaded guilty to ganja offences

A Jamaican pleaded guilty to ganja-related offences in Barbados and was fined BD$5,000 ($264, 240) or 18 months imprisonment when he appeared before the magistrate to answer the charges on Christmas Eve.

Charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation is 23-year-old Vinroy Hylton.

According to www.bajan-reporter.com the drug weighing one pound (500 grams) was seized on December 9 while the accused was at the Grantley Adams' International Airport.

Hylton arrived in Barbados by air on December 9 from Kingston, Jamaica.

According to Barbados authorities he cleared Immigration and Customs but was suspected of having ingested a controlled drug.

He was referred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he subsequently passed out thirty-three wrapped packages containing cannabis which he had ingested.

THE WEEKEND STAR gathered that Hylton was formally charged on December 12.

He appeared before Chief Magistrate Beckles of the Oistins Magistrate's Court.
