Four in custody after police operations in St Elizabeth

Lawmen from the St Elizabeth Police Division, Major Organised Crime and Anti- Corruption Task Force (MOCA) and Mobile Reserve personnel carried out several operations in St Elizabeth, yesterday. Four persons were taken into custody.

Reports are that about 4:30 a.m., the team of officers was on operation in the area when a premises in New Town, St Elizabeth was searched. A man and a woman were arrested for Breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act, after lottery paraphernalia were found in their possessions. A Honda CRV that was on the premises was also seized.

Another premises was searched and a man was taken into custody for possession of and dealing in ganja after a quantity of the drug was found in his possession. The illicit drug, which weighs approximately 20 pounds, has an estimated street value of J$100,000.

Hours later, another operation was conducted in Santa Cruz in the parish, when a premises was searched and a man was found with paraphernalia of scamming. He was taken into custody for Breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act.

The identities of the persons taken into custody have been withheld pending further investigations.
