Ganja seized, three arrested at checkpoint

The Ferry police seized a quantity of ganja and arrested three men during a vehicular checkpoint operation in the vicinity of Vineyard's Toll on Highway 2000 in St Catherine yesterday.

Information received is that about 5:30 a.m., lawmen who were on duty signalled the driver of a Toyota Sprinter motor car to stop. The driver complied and the vehicle was searched, during which approximately 100 pounds (45 kilograms) of ganja, valued at $500,000, was found in plastic bags in the vehicle.

The three men aboard the vehicle were subsequently arrested and will be questioned in the presence of their attorneys.

Investigations continue.
