Accused fisherman to do psychiatric evaluation

A fisherman accused of punching his alleged girlfriend in her eye was ordered to do a psychiatric evaluation when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Edgar Aiken from Port Royal, Kingston, who is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, was ordered to undergo the test by Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey.

It is alleged that Aiken was in Port Royal when he witnessed the complainant, Erica Young, coming from another man's house. A dispute ensued between the two and Young was punched the eye.

Young told the court she had pictures in her phone of her eye which was badly swollen. "Your Honour, me and him wasn't in no relationship," said Young.

"The woman wicked ... me and her inna relationship from over four year," Aiken chimed in.

RM Pusey sought to pick sense out of the conflicting reports. "If you like her, follow Taurus Riley and choose your words, and approach her," said Pusey.

The two were ordered to return to court on January 13.
