New court date for murder accused
Launtia Cuff, STAR Writer

Rohan Thomas, the man accused of killing the mother of his two-year-old son, was ordered to return to court on January 27, when he appeared before the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Thomas is charged with the murder of Kimberley Simpson.

When he appeared before Resident Magistrate Sonia Wint-Blair, it was revealed that police statements, including the post-mortem report and a crime- scene narrative, were outstanding. Thomas must also undergo a psychiatric evaluation before that day.

A bail application will also be made on his behalf when he appears next.

Allegations are that on the morning of November 29, Thomas reportedly went to the house where Simpson, her grandmother and his son lived. While there, it is alleged that a dispute developed and the accused locked himself in the house with Simpson where he reportedly chopped her to death in front of their son. He is reported to have put the child outside the house and lit it.

There was, however, no significant damage to the house as firemen from the Junction Fire Station arrived on the scene shortly after the fire was set.
