American woman on ganja rap remanded

An American woman who is accused of taking steps to smuggle 33 pounds (15 kilograms) of ganja overseas was remanded into custody when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Adrienne Foster of Miami, Florida, is charged with possession of, dealing in, taking steps to export, and conspiracy to export ganja.

Reports are that Foster, who is married to a Jamaican man, was accosted at the Norman Manley International Airport after a brown suitcase she was carrying was searched. The suitcase was alleged to contain several items inclusive of cans, which was said to contain canned ackee. It is alleged that upon closer inspection, airport officials found the ganja in the cans.

Foster was ordered to return to the court by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey on January 30 for a mention hearing.
