Three months' sentence for stealing phone

A man was sent to prison for three months on Tuesday for stealing a Blackberry Bold cellular phone.

Richard Richardson, 19, received the sentence after explaining his actions when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court. Richardson claimed that a Blackberry Bold phone resembling the one the complainant, Nicolette Simon, has, was stolen from him earlier in the day.

demanded the phone

It is alleged that Simon was on her way from school when the accused approached her and demanded the phone. "I was walking from school, I had my phone. I was replying to my cousin's text. Him say gi me di phone!" Simon explained.

After Richardson took the phone, Simon made an alarm to vendors nearby. One vendor chased Richardson, who ran into the path of a policeman. During investigations, the officer reportedly asked Richardson to prove ownership of the phone by entering the password to unlock the instrument. He was unable to do so.

"You go and cool off for me for three months," Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey said as she sentenced the teen.
