The St Catherine School Transport Association has received the blessings of the Transport Authority, which has given them uniforms.

On December 20 last year, the members launched the association in Silverstone in the Portmore municipality. Following this, the members took to the streets from Portmore to Ewarton in a motorcade.

"We are here to stay, and with us getting uniforms, it shows clearly that we are being professional in dealing with the school children," president of the association, Hector Rowe, said.

Many persons told THE PORTMORE STAR that the transport operators had made a good move and are helping to structure the school transport system not only in Portmore, but parish-wise.

"This is a very good thing for Portmore and St Catherine in general. This shows that if you are organised, things can be done that benefit us positively," acting Mayor of Portmore Leon Thomas, the councillor for the Hellshire Division, said.

Police and school personnel also agreed that the transport system is a step in the right direction to regularise the system.
