Jamaican arrested in St Kitts for fake passport

Andre' Williams, STAR Writer

The arrest of a Jamaican in St Kitts found in possession of a fraudulent passport has triggered an investigation into allegations of a growing passport scam in the Caribbean territory, THE STAR understands.

Information reaching our news team is that more arrests are expected in the alleged passport scam that has also reportedly implicated a prominent national of St Kitts.

According to www.winnfm.com, the case involves a Jamaican national, Janiel Shane Thomas, who was deported to the federation from the United Kingdom, where he was seeking to enter the country bearing a St Kitts and Nevis passport.

Thomas has been charged for two counts of false pretences allegedly committed on March 21, 2013 in Basseterre.

According to reports from the St Kitts commissioner of police, based on the findings of the investigation the person purchased the passport from someone local, and alleged that a prominent local signed off on the passport application, claiming to know this person.

THE STAR gathered that to date four persons have been arrested.

The St Kitts police have assured the public that there are at least two more arrests that would be forthcoming at the end of the investigation, likely before the end of the month.
