Alleged liquor thief charged with simple larceny

A man who allegedly stole 12 bottles of liquor was fined $50,000 in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Charged with simple larceny is Andrew Sitcheron.

The Crown alleges that Sitcheron was employed to a distillery to deliver rum when he removed 12 bottles of the liquor from the order.

It is further alleged that he returned 12 empty bottles claiming that the rest were broken, however, it was soon discovered that the batch numbers on the items were different.

In court, Sitcheron apologised for his actions and began throwing himself at the mercy of the court. However, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey told him that his actions were one of greed and that he should go to prison.

He was subsequently ordered to pay $50,000 or serve six months' imprisonment.
