A St Catherine man who was reportedly held with several rounds of ammunition on Friday will appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on February 4.

He is Andrew Smithe, a 21-year-old labourer of Spanish Town. Smithe was reportedly held by members of the Island Special Constabulary Force's Operation Support Team.

Police reported that Smithe was seen along Nugent Street in Spanish Town walking with a schoolgirl. Upon seeing the police, he began behaving suspiciously and was stopped by the lawmen.

It is understood that the police requested a search of Smithe. During the search, Smithe dropped a parcel on the ground, the police, said. The parcel was retrieved by the police and found to contain seven 9mm rounds of ammunition.

Smithe was subsequently detained and charged with illegal possession of ammunition by Special Corporal Jason Bailey.
