School administrator accused of stealing $1m gets bail extension

A school administrator accused of pocketing more than $1 million from her institution's purse had her bail extended in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Sheryl Harris pleaded guilty to embezzlement and returns to court on February 27, when the matter will be mentioned as investigations are ongoing. The accused is already on the sentencing list.

Allegations are that Harris did not turn over funds paid to the school to cater for the children.

The court heard that the school caters for children with special needs.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey said that the additional time that the police are requesting to unearth more missing funds will not lessen or worsen Harris' sentence.

The investigators in the case have asked the court for some time as there are indications that more money is involved.
