Get fresh produce at Maggi Farmers' Market today
Christopher Serju, STAR Writer

Fresh local-farm produce will be on sale in New Kingston today, 6:30 a.m. until 7 p.m., during the Maggi Farmers' Market, which will see ground produce, fruits, vegetable and meat on sale, along the corridor between the Sagicor Bank building and Jamaica Tourist Board office.

In addition to supporting local farmers, Nestle Jamaica will host cooking demonstrations to showcase the use of its Maggi season and soup lines to enhance local dishes.

Wendy Robertson, consumer marketing manager, explained the reason behind the Maggi Farmers' Market initiative.

"The range of Maggi products, in particular soups and seasonings is the ideal complement to our various popular local dishes, namely home-made and street-side soups as well as popular meat and fish dishes - curried goat, stews peas, fried fish, etc.

"Almost all of our locally grown produce is used in the preparation of these dishes," she told the weekend Star.

"Maggi has been a part of Jamaica's culinary traditions for decades and we have been providing great flavour to enhance our local dishes. This promotion seeks to support Maggi as a part of our households and to support our farmers who are responsible for what we grow as a country and, therefore, what we eat."

In addition to giveaways, spot prizes and cooking demonstrations with the Maggi Mobile, patrons will also have a chance to win a $50,000 Courts gift voucher

However, for Robertson, strengthening support for local farmers is the driving force behind the New Kingston promotion. She explained why this is a win-win situation for Maggi and its consumers.

"If Maggi is the ideal complement to fresh produce used in local dishes, then this venture is to strengthen this relationship. Maggi and local dishes go hand in hand, for not only do the products complement the meals but they are very affordable."
