Accused thief freed
Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer

A man charged with receiving stolen property was freed in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday after the Crown failed to establish its case.

He is Germaine Saunders, a 26-year-old technician, from Spanish Town, St Catherine.

When the case was mentioned, the ownership of the stolen property, a phone, could not be established.

Defence attorney Courtney Maxwell made a successful submission that if the device had no owner, the matter must be dismissed. The Crown conceded and told the accused he was free.

Allegations are that on December 27, 2012, the complainant was at home in Lauriston, St Catherine, when four men invaded his home beat and robbed the household of six cellular phones and $60,000.

A report was made at the Spanish Town Police Station and the accused was reportedly held at the station when the phone rang in his possession.

The accused has maintained his innocence throughout his court appearances.
