$20,000 fine for hitting woman

A fine of $20,000 was imposed on a man in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, who is alleged to have hit a woman in the face after his advances for sex were spurned.

Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm is Gregory McLaughlin.

The court heard that on the day of the incident, McLaughlin allegedly drove the complainant to a location in an attempt to have sex with her but she refused and, during an altercation between them, the complainant was slapped in the face.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey then ordered that McLaughlin pay the fine or serve six months in prison for his actions.
