Popular Jamaican artistes Cham and Damian 'Junior Gong' Marley made waves in the music world once again, performing their hit single, 'Fighter', for UK's top-rated entertainment show, 'BBC 1Xtra', at the Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston, recently.

Since its release in August last year, the track has hit several high notes both locally and internationally, reaching No. 2 on BBC 1Xtra's Dancehall Top 5, with Cham's Bend Down rounding out the list at number 5. Following the immense popularity of the single, BBC 1Xtra made the journey to Jamaica to record Cham and Marley's performance at the legendary studio for live airing on their television programme.

real Jamaican vibe

Happy for the opportunity to connect with his fans in the UK, Cham commented, "When David Rodigan called us up saying how hot Fighter was in the UK and in the streets, they wanted to do the song live with a real Jamaican vibe. We thought it was a great idea to give the fans what they want. Our fans in the UK don't get to see us all the time, so it was a great opportunity to connect with them."

Rodigan, a renowned selector and host of BBC 1Xtra, was impressed with the quality of the performance and the overall vibe produced by Cham and Junior Gong. "Cham blew Tuff Gong studios apart when he teamed up with Damian Marley as this special surprise guest for the BBC 1Xtra Jamaica Special. Both Cham and Damian were meticulous in recording the session and would not stop doing takes so that their energy levels just kept rising. It was a unique event and one that we shall always remember," he said.

Backed by Junior Gong's band, the duo performed a new arrangement of Fighter for their international fans. Produced by Dave Kelly of Mad House Records, Fighter is a political satire about the cycle of poverty, violence and corruption in Jamaica, especially in the inner-cities.
