Near fatal high-speed chase ends in Caymanas Gardens

A high-speed chase resulted in a near fatal crash in Caymanas Gardens, Site D, St Catherine, on Monday night.

The Wild West chase began on the Gregory Park main road, minutes after 7 p.m., when a white Toyota Corolla taxi hit a black BMW and failed to stop. The BMW driver gave chase as the taxi driver dodged sleeping policemen on the Meadowvale road heading into Caymanas Gardens.

Upon reaching a section of Caymanas Gardens, and in a bid to escape, the taxi driver climbed an embankment and made his way down a narrow footpath, where the vehicle crashed into a wall.

"Is a good thing nobody never did deh inna the walkway, or else smaddy woulda did dead tonight," a concerned male resident said.

Several residents came out to see what the commotion was about, however, the driver fled the scene.

Moments later, police and the occupants of the BMW arrived on the scene.

The incident left Caymans Gardens residents shaken with some fuming that strangers have taken over the community, driving at high speed with no regard for children. The damaged Corolla was removed from the scene.
